For God so loved the world
He gave his only begotten Son
That whosoever shall believe in Him
Shall not perish
But have everlasting life
John 3:16
I KNEW this verse by the time I was 3.
It took me until well into my adulthood to KNOW it.
Almost anyone around had herd this verse. Almost anyone you ask can recite it to you with an ease that is un-nerving, Heck, even WWE wrestlers use it.
Do you KNOW it?
Have you ever took the time to UNDERSTAND it?
Or...have you, like me, up until this point simply memorized the words, giving no thought to the meaning.
Read it again, aloud if you need to, and this time think about what it is saying...
26 words.
Beginning with God, and ending with life, encouraging us to do the same.
For God so loved the world...
Loved Who?
You? Me? What about Child Abusers, Prostitutes, Murders, Gamblers, Dead Beat Dads/Moms?
What World?
The one that wants his name taken out of our pledge, and off our dollar? The one that on one side of it people are being killed for following him, and the people on the other side don't care?
Gave What?
Prizes? Wealth? Power? No, He gave the ultimate sacrifice, His Son! To all the Mommy's out there could you do that? Could you do what Mary was forced to do? To set at her Son's nail pierced feet, beaten, broken, and bruised? Could you set there helpless and watch him die? Could you listen while they mocked your child? I don't know about you guys, but I'm not giving up Zachary for anyone!
For How Long?
A week? A month? A year?
Did you know that Anti-Aging products are a multi billion dollar industry? Humanity has searched for the "fountain of youth" for centuries. Well that "fountain" is not on this side of heaven my lovelies! Eternity, that is what we are promised if we believe those 26 words.
So, lets re-cap. But this time lets change some of the words.
For God so loved ME
That He gave His only begotten Son
That if I believe in him
I will not perish
But have everlasting life.
It doesn't say whosoever has: the biggest house, the most money, the best grades, the fastest car, all it says is that we have to BELIEVE!!!
Lovelies, I for one think that we got the better end of the deal on this one. He had to be nailed to a cross and die a terrible death this imperfect world with all its imperfect people. And us?
All we had to do was BELIEVE!

Thnak you for writing that. It was wonderful. I never really thought about it like that.
Great post! A nice reminder of something that I too often take for granted.
Thanks for this post. I wish to share this inspiring book: 3:16: The Numbers of Hope
Best-selling author Max Lucado leads readers through a word-by-word study of John 3:16, the passage that he calls the "Hope Diamond" of Scripture.
